Lofty expectations

In the last post I mentioned my lofty expectations in regards to Bush’s second term as President. I couldn’t link to it and still can’t because it’s lost in the archives but I found it and paste it here for your remembrence. On March 1, 2004 I wrote:
Who really cares what excuse George Bush used to get Saddam. Saddam should have been gone 12 years ago.
The main justification for Afghanistan and Iraq is Iran. Most thinking people realize this. The timing was right politically to take Iraq off the table. Anyway, we were expending way to many resources protecting the UN no-fly zones installed from the previous UN resolutions that were not being obeyed. Everyone wanted to keep the status quo because it wasn’t costing them anything and business was good. Well screw everyone.
From a strategic military standpoint, unless the insurgents can succeed in driving the coalition out of Iraq, which will not happen with Bush in the leadership position, or someone who wants out of Iraq gets elected in November, Iran is toast. That is why they are supporting the insurgency. After the election, if Bush wins, Iran will have to either play ball nicely, or the vise will begin to tighten. With the reformists creating internal pressure on the mullahs and the coalition of the willing occupying the territory on either side, Iran is in a very tight spot indeed. Even now they are playing the nuclear card a la N Korea. In desperation, the islam-o-crats may possibly even fire one off.
Of course everyone will blame this on Bush if it happens. Well screw everyone.
The strategic facet of the Iraq occupation is rarely discussed but is as plain as the nose on your face.
Hold on to your ass. If Bush wins, Iran is going to come correct one way or the other, and everyone knows it. We will go to war with Iran by the middle of next year if the radical mullahs are still in charge of atomic weapon making materials.
Syria will get spanked first as a warm up if they don’t crawl back into the hole they came from.
Well, at least Syria has been getting bloodied up a bit by Israel, regardless of what the media tells us. Somaybe we are on track, just way behind schedule.
