I too love this kind of stuff. The world’s hardest vocabulary test:

  1. Schadenfreude
  2. Defenestration
  3. Adumbrate
  4. Encomium
  5. Blandish
  6. Turpitude
  7. Fribble
  8. Solipsism
  9. Captious
  10. Protean
  11. Tenebrous
  12. Otiose
  13. Puissant
  14. Hegemony
  15. Tertiary
  16. Bathos
  17. Antediluvian
  18. Fugacious
  19. Sinecure
  20. Defalcate
  21. Heuristic
  22. Quotidian
  23. Avuncular
  24. Somnolent
  25. Juggernaut
  26. Recondite
  27. Peripatetic
  28. Parsimonious
  29. Bricolage
  30. Punctilio
  31. Numinous
  32. Grampus
  33. Transmogrify
  34. Pismire
  35. Nictitate
  36. Crenel
  37. Gravamen
  38. Insuperable
  39. Fungible
  40. Putative
  41. Palaver
  42. Panoply
  43. Aplomb
  44. Haruspice
  45. Moribund
  46. Foozle
  47. Nostrum
  48. Moil
  49. Flagitious
  50. Draconian
  51. Soporific
  52. Aril
  53. Flivver
  54. Jejune
  55. Frowzy
  56. Canard
  57. Qua

Interestingly, many of these words I can use correctly in a sentence but not apply a formal definition. When I read them in a book I know what they mean in context, but couldn’t state the exact meaning. I guess that is a sign of a weak vocabulary. If I kept a dictionary handy as I read not only would my vocabulary be much better but I could use the words more in my own writing.
